FLASHCARD QUESTION

Front

Where does photosynthesis occur in plants?

Back

chloroplasts in the leaves

Answer explanation

Media Image

Cells in plant LEAVES contain CHLOROPLASTS which is where PHOTOSYNTHESIS takes place. The leaves of plants also have very small openings that absorb carbon dioxide needed for photosynthesis. Sunlight shines on the leaves and is absorbed by the chloroplast. Sunlight provides the energy that is needed to start the chemical reaction of photosynthesis.

FLASHCARD QUESTION

Front

Products of photosynthesis?

Back

Starting materials of cellular respiration.

Answer explanation

Media Image

Photosynthesis takes water and carbon dioxide and makes sugar and oxygen. The sugar and oxygen are then used by the mitochondria to make chemical energy, giving off carbon dioxide and water as a waste product that can be used again in photosynthesis
