Net Force

Net force is the overall force on an object when all the individual forces acting on it are added together (forces in the same direction) or subtracted (forces in the opposite directions). In the picture, String 1 and String 2 are attached at opposite sides of a box. In order to calculate the net force, you will subtract the smaller force from the larger force. The box will go in the direction of the larger force.
