The Giver Chapter 6-7 Flashcard

Assignments are roles given to citizens in the community that dictate their responsibilities and contributions to society.

Asher is Jonas's friend who is assigned the role of Assistant Director of Recreation.

The Chief Elder is the leader of the community who oversees the Assignment Ceremony and makes important decisions.

The Assignment Ceremony is an annual event where children are given their roles in the community based on their skills and interests.

Jonas's number indicates the order in which he will receive his Assignment during the Ceremony.

When the Chief Elder calls a number, it signifies that the individual associated with that number is to receive their Assignment.

The Assistant Director of Recreation helps organize and oversee recreational activities in the community.

The community controls lives through strict rules, Assignments, and the suppression of emotions and choices.

Waiting for one's Assignment creates anticipation and reflects the community's structured approach to life.

'Release' refers to the process of removing individuals from the community, often implying death or exile.
