What are the terms of the new covenant?

Jesus died on the cross and took the punishment that should have been ours. Then He rose again from the dead. If we believe and repent, God forgives our sins.

Covenant for Adam and Eve

A descendant will conquer Satan

Never destroy the earth by flood again

He will be made into a great nation. All people will be blessed through his descendants.

God will be their god, and the Israelites will be God's people.

God will make his name great, bring peace to Israel, and will establish this person's dynasty on the throne forever.

BEFORE SIN, what were the terms of the first covenant?

God creates and gives food. Humanity must be fruitful, fill the earth and subdue it, rule over every creature, obey God

Compare the old covenants to the new covenant

1. Most of the time, the old covenants pertained only to specific people or people groups. The new covenant is for everyone. 2. The old covenants depended on people's obedience to God. The new covenant is dependent only of Jesus's obedience and our repentance. 3. The old covenants used animal blood. The new covenants use Jesus's perfect blood. The old covenants were temporary until the next sin occurred. The new covenant is permanent.

Why did God establish the covenants with Adam, Noah, and Abraham before introducing the Mosaic covenant?

To establish that He would provide savior when they fail at following the Mosaic laws.

How is Jesus the better covenant?

1. He was perfect, while the animal sacrifices were not. 2. His sacrifice was permanent. Animal sacrifices were temporary

Moses Adam and Eve - BEFORE THE FALL

Covenants that only relied on God, the person didn't have to do anything

Do any of the covenants promise a Messiah?

Yes - Adam and Eve, Abraham, David

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
