The Writing Process

The final copy is the polished version of a piece of writing that is ready to be submitted or published. It is free of errors and reflects the writer's best work.

A rough draft is the initial version of a piece of writing where the writer organizes their thoughts into complete sentences, focusing on content rather than grammar or spelling.

During the drafting stage, writers create a preliminary version of their work, focusing on getting their ideas down on paper without worrying about spelling, punctuation, or word choice.

The revising step involves reviewing the draft to improve its content, structure, and clarity, checking for focus, details, and paragraph development.

A basic essay typically has 5 paragraphs: an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Prewriting is the stage where writers brainstorm ideas, plan their content, and organize their thoughts before drafting.

The editing stage involves checking the draft for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, punctuation, and overall clarity.

Publishing is the final step where the writer shares their completed work with an audience, whether in print or online.

During the revising stage, focus on improving the clarity, coherence, and overall quality of the writing, including checking for focus and details.

Drafting is about getting ideas down on paper, while editing is about correcting errors and improving the writing.
