Text Structures

Text structure refers to the way information is organized in a text. It helps readers understand the relationships between ideas and the overall flow of the content.

The main types of text structures include: 1. Cause and Effect 2. Compare and Contrast 3. Sequence 4. Problem and Solution 5. Spatial/Descriptive.

Cause and Effect text structure explains why something happens (the cause) and the results of that event (the effect). Example: "The heavy rain caused flooding in the streets."

Compare and Contrast text structure highlights the similarities and differences between two or more subjects. Example: "Cats and dogs are both popular pets, but they have different needs and behaviors."

Sequence text structure presents information in a specific order or steps. Example: "First, gather your materials. Next, mix the ingredients. Finally, bake the cake."

Problem and Solution text structure identifies a problem and proposes one or more solutions. Example: "The city faced traffic congestion; to solve this, they implemented a new public transport system."

Spatial/Descriptive text structure organizes information based on location or physical characteristics. Example: "The park has a pond in the center, surrounded by trees and flower beds."

Transitional words help connect ideas and paragraphs, making writing flow smoothly. Examples include 'first', 'however', 'in addition', and 'finally'.

A topic sentence states the main idea of a paragraph, guiding the reader on what to expect in the following sentences.

Revising writing is important to improve clarity, coherence, and overall quality. It helps ensure that ideas are well-organized and effectively communicated.
