Integers and Rational Numbers

An integer is a whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero, but does not include fractions or decimals.

A rational number is any number that can be expressed as a fraction or ratio of two integers, where the denominator is not zero.

A decrease in temperature is represented by a negative integer. For example, a decrease of 4 degrees is represented as -4.

The opposite of a negative integer is its positive counterpart. For example, the opposite of -9 is 9.

To divide a whole number into fractions, you can express the whole number as a fraction with a denominator. For example, 8 chocolate bars for 22 students is represented as 8/22.
