What is the commutative property of multiplication?

The commutative property states that changing the order of the numbers in a multiplication problem does not change the product. For example, $$4 \times 5 = 5 \times 4$$ .

What is the associative property of multiplication?

The associative property states that the way in which numbers are grouped in multiplication does not change the product. For example, $$(2 \times 3) \times 4 = 2 \times (3 \times 4)$$ .

A factor is a number that divides another number without leaving a remainder. For example, 2 and 3 are factors of 6 because $$2 \times 3 = 6$$ .

A multiple is the result of multiplying a number by an integer. For example, the multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, etc.

What is the distributive property?

The distributive property states that $$a \times (b + c) = a \times b + a \times c$$ . It allows you to multiply a number by a sum.

A quotient is the result of a division problem. For example, in $$12 \div 3 = 4$$ , 4 is the quotient.

A dividend is the number that is being divided in a division problem. In $$12 \div 3$$ , 12 is the dividend.

A divisor is the number by which the dividend is divided. In $$12 \div 3$$ , 3 is the divisor.
