God blesses his people with land and descendants. The world will be blessed through them.

Describe the Mosaic covenant

If they keep god's covenant they will be a kingdom of priests and gods treasured possession.

Describe the Davidic covenant

God promises David an everlasting kingdom and his descendant will sit on the throne forever.

What do First and Second samuel recount?

Time after Judges, First king of Israel Saul, then king David a man after god's heart

Did god intend for there to be a king

No, God wanted to be the leader of the Israelites. If the Israelites had a king they would become more like the other, corrupt nations. He knew, however that they would want one so he gave some criteria for a king in Deuteronomy.

List of negative things earthly kings would do

Take a tenth of their goods "tithe" Make their sons fight wars

Summarize an encounter with the arc of the covenant

Philistines took the arc after the Israelites foolishly brought it out during a battle. They place it in a temple with Dagon. Dagon falls over and breaks and the people are getting tumors. Having had enough the Philistines relinquish the arc. 1 Samuel 4:1-7:17

What does god want the Israelite king to be like?

king must be from within Israel, not amass excessive wealth or horses, and must diligently study and follow God's law.

What does David do thats bad

Bangs Bathsheeba and kills her husband

How does Jesus fullfill these promises

He is the temple and was resurrected "temple was rebuilt" in three days. He also is the sun of god and from the line of David.

What do the Israelites realize after asking for a king?

They realize that wanting a earthly King was a sin because it caused them to turn away from god and (in a way) replace him.

What does man look at and what does God look at

Man looks at outer appearance God looks at the heart

What happens after Davids transgressions

Child of the adultery dies, David's son Absalom and others turn on him causing him to flee, the kingdom splits in two, the philistines rise again

What happens after Davids sinful census

He has to choose between 3 bad options and chooses 3 day plague 7 year famine, 3 month pursuit from enemies, 3 day plague

What does book of Samuel show about god

He delights in reversing the fortunes of people poor to rich rich to poor

What becomes the capital of Israel

Jerusalem became the Religious and political capital of Israel
