Words that mean several things. These words cannot be understood without the context of the words and phrases around it.

The base word. Ex: Help in helpless.

Letters added to a root word that changes its meaning. May be a prefix or suffix. For example, when the prefix dis- is added to the word interest, the word disinterest means the opposite of the root word interest.
