FLASHCARD QUESTION

Front

W11.6

What is the perimeter of this shape?

And what is the area?

Back

Hint:

The perimeter is the lenght that goes around the shape. To calculate the perimeter you need to ADD UP all the sides. You will use the same measure the the measurements have been given in.

The area is the surface inside the shape. To calculate the area you need to multiply base x height (or length x width .... it is the same). The unit will be squared: Unit2 eg: cm2, m2 , mm2 ....

FLASHCARD QUESTION

the perimeter is:

5 + 9 + 5 + 9 = 28 cm

the area is:

5 x 9 = 45 cm2

FLASHCARD QUESTION

Front

It is a sevarl step question:

1- you need to work out the missing measurements.

2- Then you can work out the perimeter: add up the lengths of all the sides.

3- For the area there are several ways to do it. One way is to cut the L shape into two smaller rectanges. You work out the are of the small rectangles then add them up.

Back

The missing lengths are:

top: 7 - 4 = 3cm

side: 3 + 2 = 5cm

The perimeter is:

5 + 3 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 7 = 24 cm

The area is:

5 x 3 = 15 cm2

4 x 3 = 12 cm2

total area: 15 + 12 = 27 cm2

You might have worked this differently and as long as you have the correct answers, it is correct.
