The Atatürk House Museum

The Atatürk House Museum is the house of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first president of Türkiye, in Thessaloniki, where he was born in 1881 and which is now used as a museum. The Municipality of Thessaloniki decided to buy the house in 1933 on the occasion of the anniversary of the foundation of Turkey and gift it to Mustafa Kemal Pasha; the purchase process was completed and the house was gifted in 1937 and opened as a museum in 1953.

It is one of the Ottoman period mosques built in the 15th century. It was built by İshak Paşa in 1484. It was also used as a mosque, hospice, soup kitchen and madrasah. Its domes are covered with lead. It is called ALACA İMARET in the public because its minaret is decorated with geometric motifs in the form of a red diamond pattern.
