Person vs. Nature Conflict

External conflict between a character and a force of nature (hurricane, rainstorms,blizzards etc..)

Person vs. Society Conflict

External conflict between a character and their culture, society, or government (group, not just 1 person)

Using ' you ' (the least common point of view). Ex: recipes/commands

Using ' he ,' ' she ,' or ' it '. ( Narrator of story)

Claim/Thesis Statement

The position you are trying to get your reader to accept that you will support throughout your essay; it should be the last sentence of your first paragraph.

Opposing View (Counterclaim)

Stating what someone may argue who does not have the same view on the topic as you.

Turn Back (Rebuttal/Refutation)

Demonstrating why the opposing view/counterargument is wrong .

Words or phrases that provide a connection between ideas, sentences, and paragraphs (first, second, last).
