Introducing a quotation

Provide context before the quotation--details from the text so the quotation makes sense the first time you read it. Who said it? When? Where? Any details that are needed so the quotation makes sense.

Direct evidence from the text that supports your point

Provides the author of the quotation and directions for how to locate the quotation in the text.

Connects the evidence to your main point, the claim that you're proving.
