Ancient Egypt Overview

The Nile River was fundamental to the development of Ancient Egypt, providing water for crops, drinking, and supporting fish and animals. It was also a transportation route for trade and travel.

Egypt was surrounded by natural geographic barriers like deserts, mountains, and seas, which prevented easy invasion and allowed focus on civilization development.

Religion played a huge role in everyday life. Egyptians were polytheistic, with many gods related to the sun and Nile. They believed in the afterlife, practiced mummification, and took items for the journey to the next world.

The three Egyptian Kingdoms were the Old Kingdom (2700 BC to 2200 BC), Middle Kingdom (2055 BC to 1650 BC), and New Kingdom (1550 BC to 1070 BC).

The Old Kingdom was an age of prosperity and splendor, with the development of government bureaucracy and the construction of the Great Pyramids.

The Middle Kingdom was a period of stability and expansion, with Egypt conquering Nubia, trading with Mesopotamia and Syria, and Pharaohs focusing on public welfare.

The New Kingdom was a period of massive wealth, with Pharaohs building new temples and using horse-drawn chariots to expand their influence.

Egyptians had a positive attitude towards life, married young, and had a structured society with a pyramid hierarchy. Wives were respected and managed households.

Egyptians developed hieroglyphics, built pyramids, created a 365-day calendar, and made medical advances through embalming practices.

The Pharaoh was the most powerful person, seen as both a political leader and a living god responsible for maintaining order and harmony in Egypt.
