It is an organ in the digestive system. It makes digestive enzymes

What is insulin AND what does it do?

It is a special protein and it unlocks the cell to let glucose in.

What two things does the alveoli do?

Takes oxygen from the respiratory and puts it into the circulatory system and at the same time takes carbon dioxide from the circulatory and puts it into the respiratory system

What’s the definition of the digestive system?

The system that takes in food and breaks it down into smaller molecules

What’s the definition of respiratory system?

The system that takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide

What’s the definition of a circulatory system?

The system that transports glucose, oxygen, and amino acid molecules to all cells in the body

If someone has an injured pancreas what won’t their body be able to do as well and what will happen as a result?

They won’t be able to make as many digestive enzymes/won’t be able to digest food as well. And as a result some food will remain undigested and go straight to the large intestine and out the body. This will result in less glucose and amino acid molecules making it to the cell.

What specifically happens to the oxygen molecules in the body of a person with anemia?

Oxygen molecules will have a hard time getting into the circulatory system due to a lack of red blood cells to carry them. So they oxygen molecules will begin to build up in the respiratory system AT THE ALVEOLI.

What specifically happens to glucose molecules in the body of a person with diabetes?

Glucose molecules will have a hard time getting into the cells of the body due to a lack of insulin which opens the cell for glucose. So the glucose molecules will begin to build up in the blood (circulatory system) causing blood glucose levels to rise.

What happens to food molecules in the body of a person with an injured pancreas?

Some food will remain undigested and go straight to the large intestine and out the body.

Lungs, trachea (windpipe), nose/mouth, and alveoli

Why does your heart beat faster when you exercise?

To pump blood faster which delivers needed molecules to your cells faster

What are capillaries AND where are two different specific places you’ll find them?

The smallest blood vessels in the body. You’ll find them in the villi and surrounding the alveoli

What molecules do the villi deal with, and what do they do with them?

The villi allows molecules like glucose and amino acids to pass through into the circulatory system.
