EMERY-DREIFUSS
SYNDROME


– A disorder caused by a recessive
inheritance on the X chromosome.
It causes a slowly progressive
muscular dystrophy onset in
childhood, 4 to 5 years old, and is
characterized by contractures of
the elbow , ankle, and spine. It can
cause cardiac atrial rhythm ,
conduction disorders, and
retardation.

DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY–


– nearly always occur in boys, on average 1 out of 3,300 boys are
born with the disorder. The condition is characterized by
weakness and pseudohypertrophy of the affected muscles. Causes
frequent respiratory infections and some people have to be
confined to a wheelchair.

MYOTONIC DYSTROPHY (STEINERT’S DISEASE)


– A disorder that produces weakness and stiff muscles, especially
the hands, drooping eyelids, extreme muscle weakness, small
testes in men and mental retardation. People with this disease
usually die by the age of 50.
