كَانَ جُحَا فِي الطَّابَقِ العُلْوِيِّ مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ، فَطَرَقَ بَابَهُ أَحَدُ الأَشْخَاصِ، فَأَطَلَّ الشُّبَّاكِ فَرَأَى رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ: مَاذَا تُرِيْدُ؟

Juhā was in the upper floor of his house, when someone knocked on his door, he looked out the window and saw a man, and said: What do you want?

اِنْزِلْ إِلَى أَسْفَلَ لِأُكَلِّمُكَ، فَنَزَلَ جُحَا، فَقَال الرَّجُلُ: أَنَا فَقِيْرُ الحَالِ، وَأُرِيْدُ حَسَنَةً يَا سَيِّدِي،

Back

'Come down so I can talk to you,' Juhā descended, and the man said: 'I am in a poor state, and I want a favor, O my master,'

فَاغْتَاظَ جُحَا مِنْهُ، وَلَكِنَّهُ كَتَمَ غَيْظَهُ، ِوَقَالَ لَهُ: اِتْبَعْنِي.

Juhā was annoyed with him, but he suppressed his anger and said to him: 'Follow me.'

وَصَلَا إِلَى الطَّابَق العُلْوِيِّ، اِلْتَفَتَ جُحَا إِلَى السَّائِلِ، وَقَالَ لَهُ: اللهُ يُعْطِيْكَ،

They reached the upper floor, Juhā turned to the beggar and said to him: 'God will give you,'

فَأَجَابَهُ الفَقِيْرُ: وِلِمَاذَا لَمْ تَقُل لِي ذَلِكَ وَنَحْنُ فِي الأَسْفَلِ؟

The beggar replied: 'Why didn't you tell me that when we were below?'

Front

فَقَالَ جُحَا: وَأَنْتَ لِمَاذَا أَنْزَلْتَنِي، وَلَمْ تَقُلْ لِي وَأَنَا فَوْق مَا طَلَبُكَ.

Back

Juhā said: 'And why did you bring me down, and didn't tell me while I was above your request?'
