Verbals are verbs masquerading as nouns or adjectives.


These words seem like they are verbs, but they are not doing the job of the verb in the sentence.  Watch out for them!

Words that serve to connect words, phrases, or clauses to show that they are equally important and how they relate to each other.  


If the Fanboys conjunction joins two independent clauses, a comma is necessary.

Subordinating Conjunctions

Words that serve to connect words, phrases, or clauses to show that they are NOT equally important and how they relate to each other. 

If joining clauses with subordinating conjunctions, the clause containing the conjunction becomes dependent (subordinate).

One way to remember the most commonly used subordinating conjunctions is AAAWWUBBIS.

After  Although  As  When  While  Until  Because  Before  If  Since

But remember, there are 100s of these types of words.
