The Olympic Games

• The first Olympic Games took place in the 8th century B.C., in Olympia, Greece.

• They were held every four years for 12 centuries. 

• In the century 4th A.D., Emperor Theodosius I banned all pagan festivals, icluding the Olympics.

The Olympic Games

• The tradition resurrected 1500 years later.

• The first modern Olympics occurred in 1896.

London 2012

• During the 2012 London Games, the Olympic Village required 165.000 towels!

• The unlit Olympic torch has been taken to space several times

The rings

• The 5 rings of the Olympics represent the continents.

• The colors blue, yellow, black, green, red and white are the colors that appear on all the national flags.

The five rings represents the continents. The colors represent the flags. 

Host countries

• The Olympics has been hosted by 23 different countries.

Rio 2016

• The 2016 Games in Rio marked the first time the Olympics were held in South America.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have been rescheduled for 2021.
