What is a pronoun?

  • A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun.

  • Examples include:

  • 1. I, We ( singular and plural )

  • 2. You, You ( singular and plural )

  • 3. He, She, It, They ( singular and plural )

Personal pronouns.

We use personal pronouns to express different points of views.

Activity

in groups of three, one learner tells another something they did, for example at the weekend and then that learner must tell the third member what first speaker did.

Point of views.

  • First person narrative: a character tells the story as well as being in it ( I, We )

  • Third person narrative: an outsider tells the story but not part of it ( He, She, It, They )

  • There are different types of third person narrative.

  • What do you think they are? Food for thought.
