WHAT IS A GROUP

  • A group consists of two or more persons with a set of common interests and goals.  A family is a group of people connected by blood and other ties.

  • Together this group provides for its members' physical needs and offers them ongoing and emotional support.

  • There  are different characteristics that make up a group. eg. size, structure, goals, rules, marks of identity, leadership etc.

Groups may be classified as:  Primary  and Secondary Groups

Primary  Groups are small groups, where people interact frequently, usually daily, they know each other well and often depend on each other.  Some examples are family, friendship group.  


Membership may be voluntary (such as your group of friends) or involuntary (such as your family).
