FRACTIONS INTRODUCTION

  • A fraction is a part of a whole number, and a way to split up a number into equal parts.

4

TYPES OF FRACTIONS

In Maths, there are three major types of fractions. They are proper fractions, improper fractions and mixed fractions.

5

PROPER FRACTIONS

A fraction where the numerator (the top number) is less than the denominator (the bottom number). Example: 1/4 (one quarter) and 5/6 (five sixths) are proper fractions.

6

IMPROPER FRACTIONS

A fraction where the numerator (the top number) is greater than or equal to the denominator (the bottom number). So it is usually "top-heavy". Example: 5/3 (five thirds) and 9/8 (nine eighths) are improper fractions.

7

MIXED FRACTION

A mixed number is a combination of a whole number and a fraction. For example, if you have two whole apples and one half apple, you could describe this as 2 + 1/2 apples.

8

NOW YOU KNOW TYPES OF FRACTION WE WILL DO A SMALL QUIZ .......

9

LIKE FRACTIONS

Like fractions are fractions that have the exact same denominator in two fractions.  Example - 2/4 and 3/4 are like fraction

10

UNLIKE FRACTION

Unlike fractions are fractions that have different denominators. Example- 4/5 and 7/9 are unlike fractions

11

EQUIVALENT FRACTION

Equivalent fractions may look different, but they have the same value. You can multiply or divide to find an equivalent fraction. ... If you multiply or divide by the top of the fraction, you must do the same to the bottom. Use cross multiplication to determine if two fractions are equivalent.

12

UNIT FRACTION

A unit fraction is any fraction where the numerator is 1, example ¼.
