Do Now
In your own words define distance and length. You must do it without using the words distance or length.
3
Distance
It is easier to speak of in terms of a unit of measurement rather than a fixed definition.
You can think of it as the total space between two objects or the length of a an object.
The universal standard for measuring distance is the meter.
4
Distance
The symbol used to represent distance is 'd'
The symbol used to represent the meter is 'm'
5
Time
We will be using seconds as our standard for measuring time.
The symbol for time is 't'
The unit for seconds is 's'
6
Speed
Speed is defined as the distance traveled divided by the amount of time it took to travel the distance.
Speed = Distance / Time
S = D/T
7
The units of speed can be seen by substituting the units for distance and time into the equation
Speed = Distance / Time
Speed = Meters / Second
Speed = M/S
