• It is easier to speak of in terms of a unit of measurement rather than a fixed definition.

• You can think of it as the total space between two objects or the length of a an object.

• The universal standard for measuring distance is the meter.

• The symbol used to represent the meter is 'm'

Time

• We will be using seconds as our standard for measuring time.

• The symbol for time is 't'

• The unit for seconds is 's'

Speed

• Speed is defined as the distance traveled divided by the amount of time it took to travel the distance.

• Speed = Distance / Time

• S = D/T

The units of speed can be seen by substituting the units for distance and time into the equation

• Speed = Distance / Time

• Speed = Meters / Second

• Speed = M/S
