Spanish Colonization of TEXAS

This era is marked by the Spanish MISSIONS.  Spain had to create STRONG CLAIMS in their BORDERLANDS (the weakest land claims they had AKA:Texas).  After 80 years of ignoring Texas, Spain returned to build settlements.  Which was the easiest way to keep a claim or make the claim to the land stronger.

Don't forget that geography effects where people live and how they settle.  Missions will be located close to water sources and will be built out of the materials on hand in the physical environment.  See the Mission San Francisco de Los Tejas for example.  The mission was built in the Piney Woods, so the structure is primarily constructed of wood.
