The Imperial System:

  • The Imperial System is also called the British Imperial System because it came from the British Empire that ruled many parts of the world from the 16th to the 19th century.

  • Only used in 3 countries: United States, Liberia and Myanmar

  • Examples: Feet, Inches, Pounds, Ounces

The Metric System:

  • A decimal system of weights and measures.  The International System of Units (SI, abbreviated from the French Système Internationale) was developed in France in the 1790s.

  • Used by the rest of the world.

  • Examples: Meter, Gram, Liter, Centimeter
