Y-Intercept from Slope Intercept form

-The y-intercept is the number after x that is by itself...it doesn't have a variable.

-For example if the equations is y=2x+3, then the y-intercept is 3.

-In y=8, the y-intercept is 8 because it doesn't have a variable.

-In y=5x, the y-intercept is 0 because there is not a number after the variable.

Y-Intercept from Standard Form Equations

  • Take the number after the equal sign (without a variable) and place it above whatever number is attached to the y.

  • For example: 3x - y = -6

  • Rewrite as 3x - 1y = -6

  • b = -6/-1 = 6
