Main Character

Did you give your character a name?

What is their personality like?

Did you express this personality without directly stating it?

3

Example

Bad Example:

Fred is a dinosaur. He is contantly hungry, and bothers others when he wants food.

Good Example:

Fred sneaks into the room, his tummy grumbling, under Mr. Silliman's desk he readys himself to bite his big toe....

He thinks to himself Hmm looking juicy!

4

First Person Narrative

Instead of using pronouns such as He/She use I.

Have thoughts and ideas in Italics.

5

Theme

What is the lesson or idea you want to express through the characters story?

Example:

Man vs. Self - What problem or idea is the main character dealing with.

Man vs. Man - Typical hero vs. villian

Man vs. Nature - Man against natural happenings.

Morals - Good vs. Evil

6

Plot

Problem and solutions. In your writing you can pick wherever you want it to happen (Setting) You can choose beginning, middle, or end. The action of the story should reflect this choice, as well as it's theme.

Example:

If you choose beginning you would be hinting at the theme.

If you choose the Middle you would be showing rising actions solving the theme.

If you choose end, you would be showing how the theme is realized.

7

Scene Writing

Rough Draft. Scenes are only a part of a story. Usually 1 - 6 Paragraphs with dialogue included. The rising action should focus on the theme being presented and the Main Character. POV is 1st Person. This scene should be written in Google Documents, and stored in the Google Classroom Class folder.
