The difference between sandy soil and clayey soil

Water in each type of soil

  • In clayey soil, water is absorbed slowly. Roots can have a hard time getting through this soil type

  • In sandy soil, water travels straight down. It can't keep water.

  • Loamy soil is made up of clay, silt and sand in equal amounts. The soil allows water to drain easily and holds just the right amount of nutrients and air.
