What is Place Value?

Place is the home where the digit (number) lives and value is how much that digit is worth.

In the number 345...

3 lives in the hundreds place and has a value of 300. 4 lives in the tens place and has a value of 40. 5 lives in the ones place and has a value of 5. Expanded form would be 300+40+5. Standard form is 345. Word form is three hundred forty five.
