Rise and crisis of Radicalism (Continuation)

Radicalism defended civilians against dictatorships, the federative system, and the maintenance of absolute freedoms, which would facilitate the free exercise of civil and political rights for Colombians.

The radicals defended the laicization (independence) of the Colombian State and the officialization of education and had as their constitutional axis the Constitution of Rionegro, which symbolized the fullness of the liberal ideology. The "radicalism" was the great defender of the individual liberties in absolute terms, and consequently, the promoter of the economic liberalism.
