Women and men had different jobs.
The chiefs were men. Men were responsible for hunting, war, and interacting with outsiders.
Women managed the community.

Women
Women were generally in charge of the home and the fields. They worked extremely hard.
Women cooked and prepared the meals, gathered fruit and nuts, harvested crops and built fires.
Women raised the children. Women were well respected in the tribes for their hard work and providing food from farming.

Men
The main job of the men was hunting and fishing. Animals were not only used for food, but their skins were used for clothing and to make their homes. Men also were responsible for making war and protecting the village.
Men built weapons for hunting and boats for fishing and traveling.
