Division of Integers

  • Rule #1:

The quotient of two positive integers is positive.

    18÷6 = 3

  • Rule #2:

The quotient of two negative integers is positive.

    -18÷(-6) = 3

  • Rule #3:

The quotient of a positive integer and a negative integer is negative.

    18 ÷ (-6) = -3

Finding the Mean

  • Find the total and divide by the amount of numbers.

  • -4, -2, 5, 8, -6, 11

  • Add the negatives:

    -4+(-2)+(-6) = -12

  • Add the positives:

    5+8+11= 24

  • Use integer rules:

    24 + (-12)

    24 - 12 = 12

  • There are 6 numbers so, 12 ÷ 6 = 2.
