What is a possessive adjective ?

They indicate the POSSESSION of an object or an animal or person and refer to the SUBJECT speaking

are used to express the BELONGING of something to a person or an animal.

They are used INSTEAD of nouns, to AVOID repetitions

POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS

are NEVER followed by a noun

— “It is not her sandwich, it’s mine.” = Mine replaces another element in the sentence (sandwich).


♦ “It is not her sandwich, it’s my sandwich.” = Her and my describe another element in the sentence (they are possessive adjectives).
