Como te llamas? What is your name?

  • In Spanish there are two ways to ask “What’s your name?” Como se llama usted? Is more formal. It uses the word usted, a polite form of the word “you.” Usted is usually used with someone you don’t know very well or who is older than you.

  • The second way, Como te llamas? is less formal. The te is implied for the word tu, a familiar form of the word you. Tu is usually used with someone you know very well such as first name basis, someone younger than you
