The ACT Science Section - Tricks and Tips

  • Almost all science questions require no scientific knowledge at all. You do not need to be Bill Nye the Science Guy to pass this test. You do not need to even like science to pass this test. Nor do you need to understand science.

  • Science questions are actually just reading comprehension questions that have charts, graphs and diagrams.

  • Most questions on the ACT science section have all the information you need to answer the question correctly. Right in front of you.

  • Avoid studying for the science section

  • Practice strategies to take the test

Things to pay attention to

  • Variables in an experiment for example: Temperature, mass, gas....things you'll see on a graph or chart.

  • Relationships: how things relate to each other. For example how one chart relates to another.

  • Differences: Pay attention to difference in charts, experiments or graphs. There will most likely be questions about differences.

  • SKIMMING THE TEXT - pay attention to skimming the text Don't read every single line or word. Skim and pay attention to things that pop out or reference to charts etc.
