Scale Analysis

College Board LOVES scale. It is one of the most important things to know when beginning this class, and certainly one of the most important to review too.

Map Scale

The distance on a map relative to the distance on Earth

The best way to think about scale, so that you don't get confused, is to think , "the verb (e.g., Large) describes the detail". For example when I say the map is on a small scale, I mean that there is little detail in the map. 

Large Scale Maps

This map shows small areas in greater detail

Small Scale Maps

This map shows large areas is less detail
