  • to tell the reader how to do or make something.

Generic Structure of Procedure Text

  • Goal : It is containt the purpose of the text. (e.g : How to make spagheti)


  • Material or Ingredient : it is containt of the materials that used in the process. (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion, vegetable oil, etc)


  • Step : it is containt of the steps to make something in the goal. (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, ...., second cut the onions becomes slice. . . )

Language Features of Procedure Text

  •  Using Simple Present Tense, often Imperative Sentence patterns (Command), for example, Cut, Do not mix, and so on.

  • Using active verbs, such as turn, put, do, mix, etc.

  •  Using connectives (Conjunction) to sort of activities, such as then, while, next, etc.

  • Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc

  •  Using the temporal conjunction such as first, second, then, next, finally, etc.
