What is Mean?

  • The mean is the average of a group of numbers. To find the mean, you add all quantities together and divide by the number of quantities

  • Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the mean?

  • Step 1: 91+84+56+90+70+65+90+92+30= 668

  • Step 2: 668/9= 74.2

What is Mode?

  • The mode is the most frequent value in a set of data.

  • Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the mode?

  • Amy's mode would be 90. (the number seen the most)

What is Median?

  • The median is another word for average. Median represents the middle number(s) when ordered.

  • Ex.: Amy wants to find our her average grade. Amy's test scores are 91, 84, 56, 90, 70, 65, 90, 30, and 92. What is the median?

  • Step 1: Place numbers in order. 30 56 65 70 84 90 90 91 92

  • Step 2: Check set to see what number(s) is in the middle. 84
