3rd declension is different because:

  1. The words have two different spellings. The nominative singular is "irregular" since it's different than all the others. You have to be given both the "irregular" spelling and the "regular" stem to use with the other endings.
  2. There are masculine nouns and feminine nouns that use this same chart of endings!
