A Review of Icons and Apps We Use

To Customize and Control Google Chrome

• where you find the settings for Chrome

• We call this the Snowman

• you find it in the top right-hand corner of your screen

One Drive app

• this is one of the O365 apps

• you save to here

• the One Drive saves files online

Google Chrome

• This is an internet browser, which means it lets us get online

• It is our default browser in school

• you must double-click this to access the internet

the back button/arrow

• click this to go to the last page you were on

• you find this in the top left corner of your internet window

• it takes you back to the page you were on before

• if you click and hold on it, it will show you all of the pages you visited at that time

Microsoft Edge

• this is the internet browser for Microsoft

• clicking on this will allow you to access the internet

• it is a newer version of Internet Explorer

• sometimes you might have to use this if a site doesn't work on Chrome

Lower the Volume symbol

• press this along with the Fn key to lower the volume

Internet icon

• you can click on this to check your internet status

• sometimes there will be a red or black dot on it if your internet is not working

Minimize, Maximize, Close

• the line stands for minimize - or make your internet window shrink down to the Task Bar at the bottom of your screen

• the 2 boxes together stands for maximize - or make your internet window bigger to fill the whole screen

• the X stands for close, exit, or shut your internet window down or off

Message symbol

• can let you know you have a message or you click on it to send a message

• also symbol for mail/emai

Mute

• silences the sound

• press this key and the Fn key to mute your sound

Notifications

• notifies you that something happened - new post, missing assignment, a change, etc.

Outlook

• the app we use for email

• an O365 app

Microsoft PowerPoint

• slideshow or presentation maker

• an O365 app

Printer icon

• click on this to print

• you can find this in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen

• keyboard shortcut for Print is Ctrl + P

• Never print anything in school without asking permission first

Refresh/Reload

• click on this to reload your screen

• if your screen freezes, sometimes clicking on this will unfreeze it

• you can find this in the upper left-hand corner of your screen

Search

• this tool lets you search for something on the page or site

• sometimes it's in a box/bar

Settings

• this is another symbol for settings

• it looks like a gear

• many sites/apps use this symbol as a place you can click to make changes

Windows symbol

• Microsoft uses this for the Start button

• you click on this to log off, restart, or shut down your computer

• it is in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen

Raise the volume symbol

• this will make your sound louder

• click on this and the Fn key to raise your volume

WebEx icon

• click on this to access WebEx

The Waffle

• Microsoft calls this symbol the "Waffle"

• Click on this to access all of your O365 apps

Wifi symbol

• this is the symbol for wifi

• click on this to see which wifi network you are connected to

• you want to use the network "Mobile Devices"

• you find this in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen

Microsoft Word

• O365 app

• creates documents

Schoology

Symbol for Schoology app

Unmute and Mute

• the microphone with the line through it means your voice is not heard/recorded

• the microphone without the line through it means your voice can be heard

Microsoft Excel

• app in O365

• creates spreadsheets

• you use this when you want to work with data

Mozilla Firefox

• another Internet Browser

• this app allows you to access the internet

• sometimes you have to use this if a site won't work on Chrome

Bookmark/Favorites

• you click this when you want to add the site you are on to your bookmark bar

• sometimes it is yellow and sometimes it is white

• you find it at the end of your address bar
