Syllables

  • Syllables are chunks or beats of sound

  • All words are made of syllables

  • Some words, like toy, have 1 syllable

  • All syllables have a vowel (or vowel sound, like y)

  • The longest word in the Oxford English Dictionary has 19 syllables!
