An absolute value equation is an equation that contains and absolute value expression.

We can solve these types of equations by solving TWO related linear equations.

|x - 4| = 6

 $\left|x\ -\ 4\right|=6\ and\ \left|x\ -\ 4\right|=-6$  then solve for x

 $\left|x\right|=10$  

 $\left|x\right|=10\ and\ \left|x\right|=-10$
