3 Properties of Addition

There are 3 properties of addition: commutative property, associative property, and identity property

Identity property

• An addition sentence

• One addend is zero

• The answer is the addend that is not zero

Commutative property

• Addition sentence

• The order of the addends does not matter. The answer will be the same.

Associative property

• Addition sentence

• 3 addends are used

• parenthesis () are moved in the addition sentence

• Then add the new addends

• When rounding, round to the greatest place that both addends share
