RULE 1

Add -d to the verbs ending in e.

Dance --> Danced

Shave --> Shaved

RULE 2

Add ed to verbs ending in a vowel and y.

Play --> Played

Stay --> Stayed

RULE 3

Change the y to i & add ed to the verbs ending in a consonant and y.

Try --> Tried

Cry --> Cried

Study --> Studied

Carry --> Carried

RULE 4

Verbs with consonant vowel consonant add another consonant and add ed.

Permit --> Permitted

Chat --> Chatted

Hop --> Hopped
