Characters may change:
The way they think and feel about a particular person or group of people.For example, they may come to realize that an enemy or opponent is no different from them..
Their occupation or preoccupation.For example, they may change from being a warrior to a healer
A trait or set of traits they possess.For example, they may change from being disappointed to being determined.

In status.-For example, they may change from being a commoner to a member of the royalty.
Their level of knowledge.For example, they may change from not knowing anything about magic, to being a master magician.
Their level of ability.For example, they may change from being a terrible public speaker to one of the most articulate speakers in the world.
Not all change that characters undergo is positive, although in general negative change is the domain of failed heroes or antagonists

In the story Unto Others, Mrs. Middleton continually complains about everything the Spellmans do. The author repeats to make sure you notice her character trait as judgmental.
The the Spellmans change her flat tire and she acts differently
She tries not to get upset at their dog, dress and music (author used repeating again to show reader.
