Area Model Steps

• Draw "a" number of models

• Divide "b" by number of diagonal boxes

• Find the length and width of your perfect square

• Multiply to find your last square

• Add these values together

• What value do you add/subtract to this to get your "c" value?

Algebraic model steps

• Move the "c" value over to combine with the y

• Factor out the "a" value

• Add "b/2" squared (should be positive)

• Distribute the "a" value to see what to add/subtract to the left side

• Combine like terms to find the "k" value
