Festivals of Rajasthan

Rajasthan in India is a colourful desert. The unconvincing Thar Desert of Rajasthan and with it all the barren land of Rajasthan in India has much to offer through the plethora of celebrations. Festivals and fairs of Rajasthan in India with all the music and dances turn the land to a creative lively state. Rajasthan is a vibrant, exotic state in India where tradition and royal glory add colors against the vast backdrop of sand and desert. It is also referred as the “Desert Jewel of India”,

Teej Festival

In the morning, they bathe and dress in red sarees and fine jewellery to worship Goddess Parvati. The major attractions of Teej Festival are the swings that are fixed to the branches of large trees, on which the women take turns to enjoy swinging. Special songs are sung, and the women decorate their hands with henna.

Jaisalmer Desert Festival

The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is an annual event that takes place in February month in the beautiful city Jaisalmer. It is held in the Hindu month of Magh (February), three days prior to the full moon. The festival is celebrated amidst the beautiful dunes of the Thar Desert.

Bikaner Camel Festival

In Bikaner, the Camel Festival is a two-day affair. The celebration starts with a colourful parade of beautifully adorned camels against the backdrop of Junagarh Fort. Camels are dressed in vibrant bridles, traditional necklace, and heavy anklets. Several camel games and cultural performances also take place.

Ganguar Festival

This festival is all about honouring Goddess Gauri or Parvati. In this celebration, both married and unmarried women take part in the festivities in full enthusiasm, make clay images of Shiva and Parvati, dress them beautifully, offer prayers to them, observe day-long fast for marital happiness and prepare delightful dishes for the family.
