Cognition is the ability to understand, reason, and other thought processes.
Researchers have found that humans begin learning at birth.
IQ tests were developed back in 1905 as a way to measure a person's cognitive ability.
However, the most often accepted theory is that of Jean Piaget.
Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development was first published in 1952.

Autonomy: independence to make decisions
Conservation: the ability to understand that shape doesn't change the amount
Executive strategies: skills needed to solve problems, set goals, and evaluate solutions
Metacognition: the ability to think about thinking
Seriation: ability to place objects in order by characteristic, like small to large
Transitivity: ability to understand that the relationship between two things can extend to a third.
