SUMMARY

• St. Michael school’s principal used the N word in a discussion full of black people

• On Wed Sept 30th, students got suspended because they recorded the footage of the WHITE principal and sharing it online

• “How come it’s okay for you to say the (N-Word)?” - principal said to black people

•  Bryan Szumlas (assistant principal) is apologizing on the behalf of the principal

• “I want to share our deepest, deepest apology. It's never appropriate to share a word like that, no matter the context," he said. "I stand behind the principal as a very caring, compassionate individual. I think, as human beings, we all make mistakes, and to quote what the principal told me this morning, 'Dr. Szumlas, I will never say that word again.'”

• Alliha Pineda, a grade 11 student demanded for all catholic schools to learn about anti-racism.

• Why did the principal do this? No-one really knows. She just did it. Not thinking before speaking (impulsive)

IMPORTANCE

Why is this news?

• This is important to share because, the principal is white, and saying the N-word to black people is racist, and rude!!

• There is ‘ black lives matter’ going around in US and saying that won't make it any better.

• Makes Principal shown as a bad person

My opinion about this

• Students shouldn’t be suspended because this is important

• Principal shouldn’t say it to BLACK PEOPLE because it offends them 

• It’s called racism, and that’s not an okay thing to do
